Great post, Steve!

One part that really caught my eye was where you said that some people say that they would rather "just be themselves". That is SUCH a common trap to fall into. Well, it is either a trap or a copout, I am not sure which, but what I AM sure of is that they don't have the right idea. Saying that they would rather "just be themselves" implies that branding is trying to make them be or make them appear to be something that they are not. They don't realize that what you are saying is that you need to emphasize who they are and what makes them special and make them more identifiable than just a name in the phone book. People who want to just "be themselves" have probably never asked themselves WHO THEY REALLY ARE! It is not about becoming a brand that you are not, it is about what brand you already are that is most becoming to others!

Again, great post, Steve! I look forward to your next one!
